While helping a bride determine if DIY flowers was for her and her wedding, I found this video. I couldn’t believe how easy she makes making your own bouquets look. I have a dozen roses on my dining room table right now & I am going to give this a try, just to see if I can do it! I’ll let you know how it goes.
Typically flowers are 20% of a wedding budget. If you are lucky enough to have your wedding outdoors, in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, mother nature provides a lot of the natural decor for your wedding. In this case, I believe that can be cut in half, even if you use a florist.
When considering if you want to hire a florist or not, keep in mind that the florist does a lot more than just flowers, they provide vases, candles & in some instances, aisle runners & other decor. Also, remember that you & your wedding party are going to have a lot going on & flowers can not be put together more than a day or two in advance. While a day-of coordinator can help with the set-up of the DIY flowers, if you hire a florist, they are there for the setup of the flowers and won’t have any other distractions. Also, take into consideration having a florist do part of the job. For example, maybe they provide the boutonnieres & bouquets and you do your own simple centerpieces. Post your thoughts about DIY flowers? Anyone have any advice or experiences they’d like to share?
In addition, here is a blog that I really like that has some great DIY ideas to help Brides save money and some photos of some weddings I’ve been a part of that had DIY flowers.
